Outreach Ministries
Bereavement Meals "Mourning Glories"
Call the Parish Office, 866-5088
The "Mourning Glories" Bereavement committee
is an outreach ministry devoted to providing meals to families and their
friends after funerals. It is a service to our brothers and sisters
in faith that offers not just a meal, but allows both Catholics and
non-Catholics alike to experience the warmth, hospitality, compassion, and
love of Jesus in times of grief and suffering. It is evangelization
at its best. No one person can do all things but every one can do
something--making calls, preparing food, or delivering meals. We are
all family and we all have different gifts. Please consider joining
this valuable ministry that needs many caring hands to meet the needs of
our large parish family.
"How do we put the love for
God into action?
It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing..."

New Life Ministry
Sharon Carlisle, 892-6679

recently adopted a child, please call so that the ministry may provide
your family a meal, after the birth of the child. Another family
member or a family friend may also call for you.
Newcomers' Welcoming Ministry
Letty Lanza, 658-6488
Brandi Wulf, 899-9609
St. Jude has become such a big place! Those of us
who have been here for a while and know a lot of our fellow parishioners
feel right at home. Newcomers to the parish have a much different
experience, though. They encounter so many new faces, and it seems
that everyone already knows everyone else. We're already involved in
this or that ministry, or group, or clique. It's hard for a newcomer
to find a place to fit in.
It would be a real blessing for new families to feel
welcome, to meet someone who can orient them, and to have someone familiar
to say "hi" to on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, our
priests and staff are far too busy to drop in on the many newcomers;
sometimes several families per week. We hope to put together a large
enough team of folks to take on this task so that it would not be a burden
for any individual.
We would put together packages at the parish with a
directory, a ministries booklet, and a prayer book. Then, we'll take
turns contacting newcomers. All that would be involved is a quick
phone call to ask when you could drop off a package from the church, then
a VERY short visit; just a knock on the door, a "Hello, I'm Jim from
St. Jude's. We're so glad that you've joined our parish.
Here's some information and here's my number if I can be of any help to
you. See you at church?"
Newcomers who do not want a home visit could still get a
telephoned welcome. It is just a small token on our part that could
mean a great deal to someone who feels like an outsider.

Pro-Life Committee
Karen Soares, 866-8652
This is a group of volunteers who help with Pro-Life
projects. For example, the postcard campaign to government officials
and Adopt-a-Baby program. Also, St. Jude's volunteers help each year
at the Pro-Life booth at the fair. Several parishioners have
assisted in making Pro-Life banners including some ninth graders.
Actually, the entire parish is the Pro-Life Committee.
A Pro-Life Mass is celebrated on the first Sunday of
each month. See the parish bulletin for times and dates.
St. Jude Samaritans
Contact the Parish Office, 866-5088
St. Jude Samaritans represent the Catholic Community of
St. Jude Thaddeus by rendering assistance to parishioners who have a
substantiated need for aid or assistance in an emergency situation.
This assistance may be for a food voucher, prescription medication, rent
payment, utilities assistance, or transportation. Responsibility for
conducting the activities of the St. Jude Samaritans is shared by the
Pastor and/ or his designated representative and the lay members of the
Samaritan Committee. These lay members are chosen for their
compassion, confidentiality, and spirituality. The overall
responsibility of administering the disbursement of monies or providing
assistance to individuals and families seeking aid from the St. Jude
Samaritans lies with the Pastor of the Catholic Community of St. Jude.
Some Other Place
Rose Perkins, 866-6079
Some Other Place is an ecumenical mission of local
churches, of which St. Jude is a member, which provides food and clothing,
as well as financial and other assistance, to indigent people in our area.
How can you help?
Soup Kitchen: St. Jude provides the noon meal every Third Wednesday
but helpers are needed Tuesday through Friday for cooking, serving the
meal, and cleaning up.
Meals on Wheels: Cooking, delivering the meals to shut-ins.
Client Intake: Interviewing prospective clients, matching needs with
community resources.
Special Projects: Back-to-School Clothing/Supply Drive, Thanksgiving
Stores, and Christmas Program.
THERE'S A PLACE FOR YOU AT SOME OTHER PLACE!
Visitation*
Each of us as a Christian is called to ministry.
Here is an opportunity to answer that call by devoting just a few hours
weekly, monthly, or on your own schedule to visiting fellow parishioners
who are in the hospital or who are homebound.
Hospital: Visiting and praying with St. Jude parishioners at St. Elizabeth
Hospital. Current schedule is two weeks per year with timing of
visits at your convenience.
Shut-Ins: Visiting homebound members of the parish and bringing Holy
Communion as needed.
Training will be provided.
Most of us have
experienced or will experience hospitalization or being homebound.
At such times, it is especially meaningful to be assured that the family
of St. Jude cares and stands by its members.
God Bless those who
will serve in this special ministry.
*Please contact the Parish Office (866-5088) if you or a
family member is hospitalized as the hospitals are no longer allowed to
release the name of persons who are under their care to the churches.
