Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
Contact the Parish Office, 866-5088
This ministry reaches far beyond the sanctuary of the
Church. Many of these ministers dedicate their time to the sick and
homebound in nursing homes. Some of the ministers have chosen to be
active daily by being present at morning liturgies which are usually
celebrated in the Chapel of the Visitation of Mary at 8:15 a.m. Monday
through Friday, and some ministers choose to minister only during weekend
liturgies. In working with the ministers of the Eucharist we are
constantly made aware of and reminded of the importance to be the Body of
Christ outside the Church doors and in our daily lives with work, play,
and family. To become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, one must go to one of
the training sessions held once a year. Another requirement for
serving the Church in this capacity is the person must be living a life
based on the Gospel values and be in good standing with the Sacraments of
the Catholic Church.
Lectors/Commentators--Proclaimers of the Word
Contact the Parish Office, 866-5088
The ministry of Proclaiming the Word is another vital
ministry of the liturgy. One who proclaims the Word takes on more
than just reading. A lector should take time to study the scripture
and pray with the meaning before trying to convey the message of the words
given to us from the writers of the books of the Bible. This
ministry requires one to attend a training session, be in good standing
with the Sacraments of the Church, and live the Gospel values. Some
of our experienced Lectors share their ministry during the week at morning
liturgy and others choose to minister during the weekend liturgies.
An experienced Lector may be called upon to Proclaim the Word at special
liturgies. Lector training is held during the year. Dates are
posted in the parish bulletin.
Hospitality Ministers--Ushers
Adolph Tingan, 842-6430
These ministers create a comfortable and conducive
environment to make people feel welcome when they come to worship.
They create a friendly atmosphere when welcoming people into our house of
worship by helping them find comfortable seating, and paying attention to
any special needs that those in attendance may have.
Anyone wishing to serve as a Minister of Hospitality
must attend a training session. (Watch the bulletin for dates.)
