Men of Jude

Charlie Wulf, 866-6454

The Men of Jude is a men's service organization for the parish.  The group was formed in 1990.  Its motto is "Faith, Family and Friendship".  These words appear on the Men of Jude lapel pin in the form of a triangle with a cross in the center.  This pin is often worn by members during Mass and at church functions.  The purpose of this group is to assist the parish and other parish organizations in any way it can.  This is often through physical support (manual labor) to complete projects.  The Men of Jude often provide financial assistance to other organizations, from monies earned from monthly barbeque chicken sales, monthly Sunday breakfasts, an annual spaghetti dinner as well as the annual parish "Gold Rush" that the group sponsors.

Over the years, this organization has helped buy a fountain for our chapel, assisted in financially helping member of the CYO to attend conventions, etc.  The group purchased one of  the parish's "outdoor" Stations of the Cross, and has provided assistance to families in the parish.

Membership is open to all men of the parish, both married and single.  Realizing the importance of family, the members are not asked to sacrifice quality family time to attend group meetings or functions.

Meetings:  Second Tuesday of every other month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Dinner is served at these meetings.  Dues are $12.00 per year.

F.L.A.G.  (Fun Loving Adult Group)

Otha Shannon, 861-1903

F.L.A.G. is a group of young adults ages 20-something to 40-something who enjoy sharing fellowship and fun while providing help and support to other parish organizations.  F.L.A.G. has nearly 50 families as members.  Most of our members are married, some with children, and others in the planning stages, but we also have some single members.  Members, children and guests are always welcome at F.L.A.G.  functions.  Some of our annual activities include a New Members Social, Home Mass, Christmas Caroling, Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Camping Trip.

Meetings:  First Friday of every month.  Dues are $15.00 per person.

JOY--Just Older Youth

Loretta McKinley, 866-7692

The JOY Group is an organization for persons age 55 and over--singles and couples.  Meetings are covered dish luncheons and for those wishing to remain after the meal, Bingo is played until 3:00 p.m.  Dues are spent to furnish the meats for JOY's Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.  Also the group offers Masses for deceased members at the time of their death and special Masses for All Souls.  This is a parish social group, which offers spiritual and supportive need to members.

Meetings:  Second Sunday of each month (September through May) after 11:30 Mass.  Meetings are held in Culotta Hall.  Dues are $1.00 per person per year.

Chili Cook-Off

Robert Kiker, 898-7741

The St. Jude Chili Cook-Off is an annual ministry that occurs each year on the first weekend in March.  The event focuses on three main goals:

1.  Raise Money.  All proceeds directly benefit the Church and families of St. Jude.  The previous years' proceeds have been donated to the Family Life Center Building Fund.

2.  Promote Community and Fellowship.  This event is an excellent time to have fun and fellowship with other members of the St. Jude community as well as parishioners from the many different ministries in the community.  It is a wonderful opportunity to invite friends to experience the family of St. Jude.

3.  Have a Good Time.  The day is all about cooking, laughing, tasting and boasting.  At the conclusion of the day, everyone is encouraged to bring their family and sample all of the wonderful, and sometimes interesting concoctions as well as time to enjoy the company of others.
